Clarks have lived at Seend Manor for half a century, but different families of Clarks. Alan Clark, supremo of the maverick political diary, lived there in the 1970s and kept a corner of walled garden with a garage in it when he sold up. Alan was followed by Brigadier Clark who gardened with military enthusiasm and for whose birthday the oval beech hedge was planted within the walled garden proper. Stephen and Amanda Clark came in 1997. They live and work in Hong Kong, but Seend Manor has been their passionate project for nearly two decades, although they have not yet returned to live there as anticipated.
