While we were working on Euridge in about 2003, John Robinson bought the plot next door to his house on Mustique. At first he asked us to build an ‘annex’, a wooden Caribbean gingerbread house in the manner of the first Oliver Messel houses on the island, a study of which we had made when staying with John on holiday there. Somehow the plans for Sienna grew and transmogrified into something more akin to a villa in the Veneto influenced heavily by the Villa Vizcaya, Miami. Built to comply with the island’s strict planning restrictions it is a series of single-storey pavilions around a ‘piano nobile’ sitting room and cloister.
