Sienna, Mustique
After Euridge John’s appetite for building projects only grew and he asked us to design a rather palatial house in the Grenadines and around it a garden of simple repeated planting, looking into the teeth of the west African trade winds, which needed to survive the dumping of stormy salty waters and the bugs and beasties of the equatorial climate. Underneath every part of the house are rainwater collecting tanks as this is the only source of water on the island, and the whole was built and is maintained against all odds by the tradesmen and gardeners of St Vincent island. It needs to mellow but one day we hope it will have something of the magic of Heron Bay designed by another landscape architect, Geoffrey Jellicoe, for Ronald and Marietta Tree.
